Is eBay selling right for me?  Donna Boyer of cndfinds answers this question with the five qualities that are necessary for success.

The Five Qualities You Need to Succeed on eBay

  1. You have to love to shop!  This doesn’t always mean going into a store – you can go to yard sales, estate sales, or auctions.  You can also shop clearance sections online.  But you have to love to shop!
  2. List what you love.  You need to be passionate about the items that you’re selling.  This is time away from your child so you want to make sure that you love it.  Donna sell shoes, clothing, and purses because that’s what she loves.  When her husband has something to sell like a tennis racquet that she's not really interested in, she feels it.  She dreads taking pictures of it.  She dreads listing it.  She procrastinates and lists that item last!  If you list what you love, you'll be more passionate and stick with it longer.
  3. Be organized.  This is number one.  You need to be able to get items to your customers quickly (shipping them within one day)...so your inventory needs to be organized.  You'll need to be organized to prepare for tax time -- tracking receipts and expenses.
  4. Make profitable decisions. Buy items that give you a high profit margin ($20+). 
  5. Give awesome customer service.  Give 100% customer service because your business relies on it.  Reviews are essential for repeat business and new business.  You also need great reviews to be top-rated and get discounts.  The customer comes first. Make them happy :)
